Our approach is grounded in the African philosophy of ubuntu: the understanding that our wellbeing is inseparable from the wellbeing of those around us.
Why This Matters
Health outcomes stall when management fails
Across sub-Saharan Africa, health services often have the tools, the medicines, and the knowledge — but still struggle to reach people who need them. The gap isn’t mainly clinical. It’s organisational.
When frontline health workers lack authority to make decisions, when teams operate in silos, when problems are sent up the chain instead of solved locally, stockouts persist, cases go undetected, and communities are excluded.
LUGF exists to change this — not by importing external solutions, but by unlocking the capacity that already exists within health systems and the people who run them.
“The current slowing of progress is not primarily the result of biological challenges — it is caused by an inability to deliver key services and interventions where they are needed most.” — The Lancet, Special Issue on Malaria Eradication, 2019

Our Values
What We Stand For
Six values that guide everything we do
Rooted in Lived Experience and Front-Line Knowledge
Health workers, community members, and patients are the primary source of insight. We create spaces where their knowledge shapes priorities and decisions rather than professional expertise or top-down data.
Integrated
Action
We resist vertical, siloed solutions. By working across roles, professions, and programme boundaries, we strengthen the system as a whole — connecting improvement to the everyday reality of service delivery.
Ubuntu, Care,
and
Mutual Accountability
Leadership and improvement are relational. We work with people to help them exercise authority through trust, reciprocity, and shared responsibility for outcomes.
Learning-Led Responsiveness
We adapt as new evidence, constraints, and priorities emerge — treating uncertainty as an invitation to learn.
Resilience
Through
Stewardship
We manage resources. Financial, human, institutional, and environmental, to build long-term resilience. We work within real constraints and avoid creating dependency. Long-term viability matters more than short-term outputs.
Integrity for Collective Benefit
We are guided by what will most benefit communities.
